1. Practical Thinking

Have You Got Your Life Together? Here’s How to Find Out.

I came across a really thought-provoking and inspiring message today from a creator on Instagram @heartfullyhuman. It made me wonder: have I got my life together?Β

I used to always think that I was on track to succeeding in all areas of my life, but I hadn’t defined what these areas exactly were. After coming across this, I realised I could do more to live the life I want. And we could all do more to live happier lives.Β

Essentially, it introduces a model that can be used to guide a better life. It has 3 sectors: personal growth, family and career/passion.Β

Picture them as the foundation of a well-built structure, where the components almost form a checklist that can be used to track your progress throughout life. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing how you can really get your life together!

Sector 1: Personal Growth

This sector forms the core of who we are and who we aspire to be. It encompasses spirituality, habits, and discipline. Taking time to explore our spirituality, whether through meditation, prayer, or other practices, can ground us and bring a sense of inner peace.

Habits and discipline, on the other hand, are the bridge between where we are and where we want to be. Are you actively seeking opportunities for learning and development? Are you consciously adopting habits that support your goals? Personal growth is a continuous process, and by investing in it, we create a solid foundation for the other sectors of our life to thrive.

Sector 2: Family

Family doesn’t just mean blood relations; it can also include close friends and the people we cherish the most. These are the bonds that enrich our lives and bring meaning to our experiences.Β

Take a moment to reflect on your relationships. Are you spending quality time with your loved ones? Are you being present and attentive to their needs? Strong family ties provide a safety net and a source of joy during life’s ups and downs.

Sector 3: Career/Passion

This sector is all about finding purpose and fulfilment through your work or passion projects. Whether you’re in a career you love or pursuing a side hustle that you have a passion for, feeling accomplished in this area can boost your overall happiness.

Ask yourself: Is my career aligned with my values and passions? Am I content with the progress I’m making in my endeavours? If you’re feeling unsatisfied in this sector, it can spill over into other areas of your life and slow you down in making progress.Β

The Interconnection: Balancing the Three Sectors

Now, here’s the fascinating part. These three sectors aren’t isolated; they are intertwined. Neglecting one can lead to difficulties in the others. For instance, if we don’t invest in personal growth, our career or passion projects may hit roadblocks due to lack of progress. Similarly, ignoring family bonds can leave us feeling emotionally disconnected, affecting our motivation and performance at work.

The key is to continuously evaluate yourself in these areas. Ask the following questions:

  1. Am I adopting ways to improve myself? Remember, personal growth is a lifelong journey, and small steps can lead to significant transformations.

  2. Am I giving enough time and attention to my family? Make an effort to be present and actively participate in the lives of those who matter most to you.

  3. Is my career/passion successful and fulfilling?Β This will help you identify if you enjoy your work and whether you’re gaining benefit from it. If not, it’s time to rethink this area of your life and take proactive steps to make it work for you.Β

By individually checking in on each of these sectors, we prevent the whole structure from collapsing. A blow in one area can affect our growth in another, and our overall happiness.Β

The ‘How’ – Taking Action for a Fulfilling Life

Now that we’ve answered the “what” let’s focus on the “how.” Take a moment to reflect on these three sectors and identify one aspect in each that could benefit from improvement.Β This can then be extended to create actionable goals to make each sector work better for you. For example:

  1. Personal Growth: Commit to reading one inspiring book each month or taking up a new course to enhance your skills.

  2. Family: Schedule regular quality time with your loved ones, be it a weekly family dinner or a fun outing.

  3. Career/Passion: Identify one specific milestone you’d like to achieve in your career or project and outline the steps to get there.Β

Final Words

Progress is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the small victories, and don’t be too hard on yourself if setbacks occur. The important thing is to keep moving forward with intention and a willingness to grow.
