Today I want to share something that I’ve been subconsciously using but was surprised to find out that it’s known as a great strategy to accomplish goals – the 1 percent rule.
Although it may seem counter-intuitive, this is powerful for creating habits and generating huge results.
It starts with putting yourself on a schedule, for instance, one week or one month depending on what you’re trying to achieve.
With each time you do the thing, identify one area where you want to get 1 percent better.
For example, when I created my blog post last week, I wondered how I could get more visual engagement and made an infographic summarising the key concepts of the post.
In any field, if you want to be better than your competitors you only need to get 1 percent better. That small effort over time will compound to get you large rewards.
And this, as James Clear mentions, is what drives the 80/20 rule.
So to summarise:
Consistency → 1 percent improvement→80 percent of results.
